Egor Noskov, Managing Partner of Duvernoix Legal, shared his opinion on the statement of the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences on the need to stimulate business that supports scientific research:

"The absence of statutory benefits, primarily tax benefits, when investing in academic science, culture, and charity, which in other countries implies the possibility of accounting all these expenses in the cost price, or deducting them from the tax base, in Russia is explained by the fact that that the state traditionally does not trust its taxpayers. The legislator proceeds from the fact that if any of these benefits are provided, then instead of real investments in academic science, corporations will send funds to scientific institutions – either fictitious or with fictitious scientific research, and money, in fact, will be shared and largely returned back to corporations, and science, like culture and philanthropy, will not develop in any way. It is hardly arguable, since the state has a wide experience with significant abuses during the periods when benefits did exist. Therefore, I think that the best support for those who are investing in academic science now will be the realization of the fact that it will not end in another criminal case of treason. "
